Where multilingual ordering makes the biggest difference

International airports and transport hubs

Airport catering serves passengers from every country, often with minimal English ability and tight departure windows. A passenger who cannot read the menu will either order incorrectly, leave without ordering, or require staff assistance — all of which slow the service. Automatic language detection and a fully localised ordering interface increases order conversion rates and average order value in international airport settings.

Hotel room service and restaurant

Hotels serving international guests face the same challenge. A French guest scanning a QR code on the bedside table expects to order in French. An Arabic-speaking guest expects right-to-left text display and Arabic numerals. Food-Ordering.com handles both automatically — the QR code links to a single ordering URL; language is detected from the device locale.

Urban restaurants with diverse communities

Many UK urban restaurants serve communities where English is the second language for a significant proportion of customers. South Asian, East European, Middle Eastern, and East Asian communities all benefit from menus displayed in their home language. Studies consistently show that native-language menus increase average order value by 15–25% compared to English-only menus in these markets.

International franchise operations

Food-Ordering.com white-label resellers and international operators can deploy the same platform across multiple countries with different primary languages. Each deployment is configured in the local language; the central franchisor manages menus from a single back-office. A franchise operating in Germany, France, and Spain can run one system in three languages without separate software deployments.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if a customer's language is not in the 144 supported?

The system falls back to the restaurant's default language (typically English) if the detected language is not in the supported set. The 144 supported languages cover the languages of 98%+ of internet users globally, so fallbacks are rare.

Do menu item names and descriptions translate automatically?

The ordering interface (navigation, buttons, checkout steps, confirmation messages) is fully translated into 144 languages automatically. Menu item names and descriptions are entered by the restaurant in their primary language. If the restaurant also enters translations for menu items, those are displayed. If not, the interface text is in the customer's language but item names remain in the original language — which is how most deployments operate.
